Summary


I want to be clear about one thing: any job is better than no job. I am not knocking the work that anyone does, but we need to take a closer look at why African Americans are in positions that pay minimum wage. This is not true of all African Americans because some of us have reached goals that others thought were unreachable. Nevertheless, some of the jobs that African Americans do are no more than paid slavery. It is unacceptable for a man to have a job where he does not earn enough to take care of himself, let alone a family. The jobs themselves are not bad because they are designed to provide financial assistance and work experience to those just starting out in the workforce such as teenagers, but these jobs are not designed to support families. We must be honest about the situation. There is a reason that our condition is not very different than it was before the 1960s. As Bill Cosby said, it is not the white man's fault. It is not anyone's fault. But what is the cause? Is it a lack of education? Is it a lack of spiritual guidance? Is it a lack of parental guidance?
