Summary
Like all of the winners, [Marian Kramer] proves that the second half of life is a time not of decline, but rather a time of creativity, invention and contribution -and that's why Civic Ventures launched the Purpose Prize Awards. The awards represent a three-year, $9 million investment in what is called a new generation of social innovators made possible by grants from The Atlantic Philanthropies and The John Templeton Foundation. It's the largest award program honoring older adults for "social entrepreneurship."
The Detroit Area Agency on Aging launched it's own "Life to the Max" awards for those over 50 living an exemplary life because of their optimism, healthy living and model lifestyle. With more Purpose Prize and Life to the Max winners, perhaps we'll hold a large public event comparable to the recent pep rally for Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School winning the state championship. It could be a pep rally or a "senior prom"-celebrating the "promise" of these older adults to forever building and maintaining community in this great city.See the full content of this document
