United Way's Virgil H. Carr Society Engages African American Donors to Address Community Needs and Improve Lives

United Way Community Services' Bluelight in the Basement Old School Rent Party, on Sept. 24, brought together more than 100 of Metro Detroit's most prominent African Americans and others to raise awareness for the Virgil H. Carr Society, which benefits programs and services supported by United Way.

The Virgil H. Carr Society is United Way Community Services' initiative to increase and encourage participation among African American leadership givers, those who give a gift of $1,000 and above. The society, launched in 2002, was renamed in honor of the organization's former president and CEO, Virgil Carr, who died suddenly in May of last year.
