Tuskegee Airmen's National Historical Museum 22nd Annual Fund-Raiser

Summary

General [Lucius Theus]' military career of more than 36 years began during World War II as a private in the Army Air Corps. He advanced rapidly through the ranks to the grade of permanent major general. General Theus was the first African American combat support officer to be promoted to brigadier general and one of only three members of the famed African American World War II 332nd Fighter Group, now known as Tuskegee Airmen, to be so honored. He was the third African American in the history of the USAF to become a general officer. Many of the Tuskegee Airmen received their final testing and basic military training in his Squadron at Keesler Field, Mississippi where he served as First Sergeant before they entered flight training at Tuskegee Army Air Field. General Theus along with other original Tuskegee Airmen were presented the Congressional Gold Medal in March of this year.
