"Early in the season I started pressing," Monroe said. "I started thinking about doing what I was doing last year, hitting home runs. Being an outfielder, it's a position where you have to drive the ball. You are expected to hit some home runs and drive others in. Early in the season, I wasn't doing that... but that's over with.

"He said, 'you just gotta let it go,' so I started being free at the plate. I started swinging the bat like I was capable of doing. When I came back up to the big leagues, I said, 'if I see a ball, I was going to relax and just hit it.' I decided I was going to go up there and swing as if it was my little brother throwing to me in the back yard."

"He's just knocking the ball right now," said Tigers teammate Brandon Inge. "Every pitch that comes across the plate, he's hitting it somewhere hard. He's got one of those Manny Ramirez-Alex Rodriguez-type swings."
