Making the Long-Term Care Puzzle Simple: Daaa Granted $13 Million

There is a strong sense of pride floating through the halls at Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) since being selected as one of four demonstration sites for Long Term Care Single Point of Entry (SPE). Keeping true to her promise to improve the state's long-term care system, Gov. Jennifer Granholm made the official announcement last month. The DAAA contract was signed this week for $13.1 million.

The attention to long-term care bears a direct correlation to DAAA's Dying Before Their Time study. That study, which was commissioned by DAAA, found that senior citizens and those approaching senior status in Michigan's urban areas are dying faster than seniors in the rest of the state, sometimes more than twice as fast as their non-urban counterparts.
