"It's what we do," said Charlene Cole, education manager and civic affairs officer for Comerica. "Our employees really care about the community. When there is a need we like to be there to help meet it. This is the fourth year that our volunteers have participated in the 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' walk. Everyone here has had someone in their life affected by breast cancer, and until a cure is found we will continue to be there."
The walk is an event where each participant finds sponsors who will pledge money, which is collected when the participant walks. All of the money goes to the charity. Saturday, Oct. 8, marked the fifth anniversary of this event. This year, approximately 5,000 people attended the walk, which was held on Belle Isle. The "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk is not the only breast cancer walk. There is also the "Race for the Cure" breast cancer walk, which Comerica also volunteers for each year."It was a very positive experience because breast cancer can affect everyone," said Melonie Odom, first vice president of civic affairs for Comerica. "It felt good to see that just our presence there touched people. The breast cancer walk had different meanings for different people. Everyone has a woman in their life. It is important to raise money because anyone can suffer from breast cancer."See the full content of this document
