Billed as a "21st century urban high school of excellence," the new Cass Tech adds long-awaited sparkle to the landscape overlooking Cass Park, adjacent to the school's current building. Some of the highlights that [Michael Gilmore] and his classmates can look forward to include a 1,100-seat auditorium, a theater and dance rehearsal studio, state-of-the-art science laboratories, a media center and upgraded athletic facilities, including an indoor running track with an outdoor view.

"For many years we have attempted to preserve the abounding tradition of educational excellence in a building plagued with adverse structural and furnishing issues," said Cass Tech Principal George Cohen. "...We are ecstatic about our relocating to an architecturally-captivating building with the accompanying amenities of state-of-the-art technology..."

"The school exemplifies excellence so why can't that be the goal for the surrounding area and the entire city? What really makes [Cass] is each student's inner-drive and everyone in the city can have that same drive."
