"Our vote has to be restored, but we cannot return to the chaos of the old school board system," Shabazz said. "The superintendent's office was a revolving door. Every day the superintendent woke up worrying about having to please at least six of the eleven school board members rather than devoting energy to improving the schools."

"The effort we are making is about the future, it's about the children," Shabazz said. "We want them to become the best they can be and become the rulers of the world instead of living in the projects and hanging out on street corners."
