Summary
Although some were offended by his oftentimes raw language and refusal to water down his message, many more who made the effort to pay attention to [Richard Pryor]'s routine realized that the language was not the entire routine. Rather, it was an essential tool of his particular craft needed to drive home his point with honesty. Many among today's younger generation place high value on "keeping it real," and few other comedians have ever kept it more real than Pryor. As a matter of fact, it could easily be argued that Pryor may have been the first Black comic to infuse comedy with such a daringly potent level of realism.
