Summary
There have been 43 Super Bowls and it is somewhat shocking that only three African Americans - Doug Williams, Steve "Air" McNair and Donovan McNabb - have led NFL teams to the biggest single sporting event in the United States.
His effort at joining Williams as the starting QB of an NFL champion was thwarted by a Mike Jones tackle as Jones stopped the Titans' Kevin Dyson on a fast-second pass from [McNair] - one yard short of the goal line. The result was a 23-16 win for the St. Louis Rams in one of my most memorable Super Bowls. The Alcorn State product and NCAA record-setter topped the NFL in yards per carry in 1997, edging the Lions' Barry Sanders, 6.7 to 6.1 yards per carry. His 64 yards rushing in Super Bowl XXXIV set a record for quarterbacks. He is one of only five quarterbacks in NFL history to rush for 3,000 yards and throw for 20,000 yards. The others are Fran Tarkenton, John Elway, Randall Cunningham and Steve Young. There have been 43 Super Bowls and it is somewhat shocking that only three African Americans - Doug Williams, Steve "Air" McNair and Donovan McNabb - have led NFL teams to the biggest single sporting event in the United States.See the full content of this document
