Although all of the program's funds have now been committed, Barbara Massey disbursed more than $240,000 in grant monies to families that have been struggling to find the resources needed for necessary repair and maintenance on their homes. One Detroit couple that visited Ms. Massey to pick up a check for roof replacement expressed their gratitude for the program and indicated that until now, they had had difficulty in finding a program that they were eligible for. They learned about the program at a presentation hosted by Next Detroit Neighborhood Initiative.

By the third day after publication of the article in the Fifth Third Community Connections section, the bank received more than 700 calls inquiring about the program and requests for applications. Because of a solid reputation of being a good corporate citizen that does good in the community, we were able to assist many homeowners and push past the suspicions of a few skeptical callers and we were able to provide the needed resources to assist them.
