Summary
The new Medicare premiums are said to reflect general growth in health care costs, higher payments to physicians and Medicare Advantage coordinated care health plans under the Medicare Modernization Act and building trust fund reserves. On Sept. 3, 2004, the Department of Health and Human Services announced the new Medicare premium, deductible and coinsurance amounts to be paid by Medicare beneficiaries in 2005.
