"The reason I'm running for the Detroit Charter Commission is that this charter will have a profound economic impact on the city of Detroit," said [Ken Harris]. "And I want to make sure that there's representation in the community when we revise it, and to see that it allows for opportunities for small business development and empowerment and the creation of more industry."

When asked what he believed is the most crucial problem facing the city of Detroit, he immediately named economics and cited a shrinking auto industry along with the failure of state and city government to find ways to help businesses to diversify into new industries.
