Summary
The Bosch "clean" diesel, which will be featured in a number of new vehicles debuting this fall, was developed to give you all of the performance that you'd expect from a luxury sports sedan like an Audi A6 with a lot better fuel efficiency. Unfortunately, there are no plans for bringing a "clean" diesel A6 to the U.S. (it's sold in Europe). But the car is being used to highlight the technology that'll be offered in a number of vehicles to debut in the U.S. over the next couple of years.
We made the trip to Pittsburgh and Detroit and back with a little under a quarter of a tank of gas to spare. And better yet, we didn't have to sacrifice performance for the sake of fuel efficiency. The diesel model gives you all the performance capabilities we've come to expect of Audi, which really shouldn't be a surprise. The Bosch diesel technology used in the A6 is the same one used in the Audi R10 TDI race car, which has won the 'Le Mans' race eight of the past nine years.Featuring the "clean" diesel technology in a car like the Audi A6 is about styling and performance in addition to fuel efficiency. The Bosch "clean" diesel is also a lot quieter than you'd expect from a diesel. You hear very little of that clattering reminiscent of older diesel cars that sounded like a truck making its way down the road.Bosch's "clean" diesel vehicles produce up to 50 percent more torque, an average of 25 percent less carbon dioxide commissions, and an average increase in fuel economy of 30 percent when compared with gasoline engines.See the full content of this document
