Summary
In December, it was exciting to see our city create an Office of Energy and Sustainability and unveil a number of "green initiatives" ranging from curbside recycling for 30,000 households to a plan to turn vacant lots into community gardens.
Among the plans laid out, steps will be taken to save energy costs borne by the city that could be as modest as changing the type of light bulbs used. Plans also include creating a "Green Council" comprised of representatives from city agencies to find ways to improve energy efficiency. Also launched was a "Green Thumbs Up" to bird-dog parcels of city land to community groups for urban gardening.
