Summary
Claims that [Connie Calloway] made some blunders in less than a year on the job may have a limited amount of merit. She did what no other superintendent of DPS has ever done, and that was to expose the financial woes of the district. She came in to clean house and started revealing the shady accounting dealings at DPS and how contracts were amassed without adherence to the rules.
Coupled with the actions of those who saw Calloway's arrival as a threat to their "contracts and gigs" and others who are interested in DPS having one superintendent per year, we are now in an educational quagmire.The board should have been more focused on the future of DPS children than challenging how Calloway was managing the district. The ego-driven school board clearly does not understand education, despite the "degree holders" sitting on that board.Dr. Carla Scott, Terry Catchings, Otis Mathis and Marvis Cofield opposed the callous move.
