Detroit Symphony Orchestra; Yo-Yo Ma Performs with Silk Road

Summary

Named for the historic trade route that connected the peoples and traditions of Asia with those of Europe, the Silk Road Project was created in 1998 "to study the ebb and flow of ideas among different cultures along the Silk Road." It was founded by [Yo-Yo Ma], who is also the Project's Artistic Director.

"I believe that music can act as a magnet to draw people together," said Yo-Yo Ma. "By examining the cultural mosaic of the Silk Road, we seek to illuminate the heritages of its countries and identify the voices that represent these traditions today."

Titled "A Musical Journey with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble," the event was a co-presentation of the DSO and ACCESS (Arab American Community Center for Economic and Social Service).
