"The evening and the honor were truly special," said [Caroline Chambers], who attended Friends from grades 1-9, completing ninth grade in 1979. "Among all the life lessons I took away from Friends, the greatest lesson would be appreciation for diversity and treating all people equally. The Friends' culture set our minds to start from the vantage point of equality, not judgment."
Judge [Damon Keith] received the Civic Leadership Award for his outstanding service as judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; commitment to civil rights; and community leadership. [Danialle Karmanos] received the Friends for Children Award as the founder of "Danialle Karmanos' Work It Out," a nonprofit program dedicated to the physical, mental and spiritual wellness of children. [Maggie DeSantis], founder and president of Warren/Conner Development Corporation received the Revitalization of the City Award and [Winifred Covintree] was presented the Distinguished Teacher Award."My Friends experience shaped my values about important things like giving, caring, family and diversity," said Caroline Chambers, who received the Distinsuished Alumni Award from Friends School in Detroit during the 17th annual Wade McCree Jr. Scholarship Fund Dinner at Ford Field.Judge Keith received the Civic Leadership Award for his outstanding service as judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; commitment to civil rights; and community leadership.See the full content of this document
