"Through a massive volunteer effort like Comcast Cares Day, we can help these organizations positively impact the lives of thousands of people."

In addition to the sweat equity, Comcast chief operating officer Steve Burke presented DUL President/CEO N. Charles Andersen, with a $25,000 contribution from the Comcast Foundation to further demonstrate Comcast's faith in the DUL and commitment to the community. This show of generosity was the biggest Comcast Cares Day moment and an unexpected surprise for the DUL.

"The National Urban League is thrilled to partner with Comcast, as Comcast Cares Day should serve as a model of community outreach for other corporations. Comcast is leading efforts to help improve the overall quality of life for African Americans across the country," said Marc H. Morial, NUL President and CEO. The Detroit Urban League was one of the 30 Detroit area organizations to benefit from Comcast Care Day 2008.

Among them was Comcast Regional Director of Public Affairs for Michigan, Pamela Dover, Board Chair Larry Jones, Bodman Attorney Alien Veneble, City Year Detroit Executive Director Penny Bailer and General Motors executive Dorothy Cocroft, all avid DUL supporters and board members.
