Stinger was at the top of her career, six figure salary, woman about town, likable and admired. She found herself deeply involved with [Rayford Jackson] and as the schemes began to unravel, her personal relationship with him became public and raised eyebrows. As a high profile newswoman, it was only a matter of time before she had to leave her job. She went quietly, recognized her mistakes and took her lumps.

Ironically, she states, it was the FBI, who pulled her coat and let her know that they knew what she was going through and that she was not a target of their investigations. This served as a pathway for her to begin to emerge from the unanticipated quicksand that she found herself in. She was relieved to know that she was not under investigation; she was not a part of the bribery. Her company, Stinger Strategies, had been used by Jackson to receive cash from Synagro, unbeknownst to her.

According to Stinger, not only did he abuse the trust in the relationship, he abused her physically.
