Creative Arts Network Brings Stage Productions to City of Flint

Summary


One of Flint's best kept secrets is out. The Flint area is headquarters to the Women's Creative Arts Network (WeCan), a dynamic and prolific African American art and culture organization whose members have received local, national and international acclaim for their exhibits, performances and productions. WeCan is a coalition of local artists and supporters who are committed to creating high quality theatre and arts programs.

"Jazzumba!" showcased the soft jazz stylings and Afrocentric poetry of [Sterline Richie-Lacy]. Her most recent production, "Standup," was staged at the Bower Theatre in February. Sponsored by the Flint Cultural Center, "Standup" was a celebration of the local Civil Rights Movement using actual experiences of Flint citizens, many of whom were featured in the production of drama, music, dance and poetry. Richie-Lacy is an international performing artist who has received accolades from Mexico, Europe and South Africa as well as nationally and locally.
